Eleventh Night Bonfires - 2015 / by Paul Beattie

I haven't photographed these before, and I haven't attended any bonfires or parades for many years.  When I did, it was long before the contentious nature of where they are today.  So these are presented without judgement or comment, only to say that where ever I went, I was met with courtesy, friendliness and a free rein to snap whatever I wanted.

There's an obvious pride and element of competition between those who build these structures.

But to be balanced about it, there are no pictures here of the people to whom these bring annoyance and disruption, or the aftermath or litter, or the next day's marches.

You'll have your own opinions about the symbolism behind these fire, the events themselves and the subsequent day after - I just took the pictures.
